FAQ

1.) Where should I go to get a copy of an accident report? Does it cost anything?
A.) Reports will not be accessible until 7 to 10 business days after the date of the incident.

• Reports can now be acquired from the Internet by logging onto http:/www.crashdocs.org/ny-villageoflakesuccess and following the directions provided. The cost for online copies will be $10.00 and copies will be downloaded immediately.
• Requests by Mail can be made by an owner, operator or passenger involved in the accident, or an owner of property damaged or an attorney or insurance company requesting on behalf of a participant. Requests must include the name, address and date of birth of the participant being represented. Reports will only be mailed to the person's address that is on the accident report or an attorney's or insurance company's office. Cost of a mail request is now $10.00 and must be made by a money order made out to the 'Village of Lake Success.'
• Copies can be obtained in person by responding to Lake Success Police Headquarters. Reports will only be released to an owner, operator or passenger involved in the accident, or an owner of property damaged or an attorney or insurance company requesting on behalf of a participant, with proof of representation for any of the above. All requests must also be accompanied by photo ID. Cost of an in-person request is now $6.00 and must be made by a money order made out to the 'Village of Lake Success.'

2.) How can I obtain or renew my Handicap Permit?
A.) Handicapped Parking Permit Application - Instructions and Application for a Parking Permit or License Plates, for People With Severe Disabilities NYS DMV MV-664.1 /664.3 (Adobe PDF). You must deliver the application to the Police Department in person. In addition, you must have your driver's license or non-driver ID number from your NYS DMV issued license or ID with you when you are present at Headquarters. 3.) Where do I send my Traffic /Parking ticket?
A.) Traffic and Parking tickets are sent to:

To speak with the Court Clerk regarding a summons, dial 516-482-7430. The Court Clerk's Office Hours are Monday 9AM - 1:00pm, Wednesday 9AM - 1:00PM (Except Court Nights, 4PM - 6PM) Thursdays 9AM - 1:00PM.

4.) Where I can get fingerprinted?
A.) Lake Success Police Department is unable to process requests for fingerprints. To have your fingerprints taken, please contact Nassau County 3rd Precinct at 516-573-6300.

5.) Who should I contact in the event of a power outage?

6.) Can the police open my car if I have locked my keys inside?
A.) Because of the potential for damage to vehicles, the Police Department generally does not open locked vehicles. The exception would be if a child is locked in a vehicle, the Police Department will respond to remove the child from the vehicle. A locksmith or a towing company is the best alternative to gaining access to your vehicle.
