Lake Success is protected by its own Police Department, which has a compliment of twenty-two police officers and three full time and four part time dispatchers under the command of a police chief. All personnel are selected from the Nassau County Civil Service lists.
The department's primary function is to give the residents the highest quality of protection possible. Aside from emergency vehicles available from Nassau County Police, Lake Success has five patrol cars equipped with life-sustaining equipment such as a resuscitator, defibrillators, a portable inhalator, first-aid kits, blankets, traffic flares, etc. The main task performed by the police are traffic patrol, traffic supervision, juvenile programs, community relations and answering all calls for assistance. Criminal investigations are handled by Nassau County Detectives from the local precinct.
All police personnel continue to receive additional training by attending seminars and other courses of study. The police department cooperates closely with other police departments, the Fire Department, the Mayor and Trustees, and the Village Court. Lake Success has recently instituted a program of identification. Children may be finger-printed at the police headquarters, and the set of prints are given to parents for safekeeping. Valuables such as jewelry, and works of art may also be marked with identification. These services are free for residents. Vehicle identification numbers are etched into the windows, if requested, also free for residents. An "Enhanced 911" telephone system is in place so that local residents can just dial from home "911" and get connected to the Village of Lake Success Police facility.
The police department should be notified of any unlawful or suspicious activities observed in the Village. Call them whenever you plan to leave your home for an extended period. The number is (516)482-4600. Notify them who has emergency access to your home with key and alarm code information.
The police department has a "State of the Art" monitoring station for security alarms. The individual resident may purchase from their own alarm company a system that contacts the Lake Success Police headquarters directly via telephone or radio signal. For prompt responses, these systems should be checked at least three times a year to verify that it functions correctly. Call the police department and give them your code before testing your connection.

OPERATION SAFE HOME PROGRAM
Burglary is a crime that violates our sanctuary and often leaves victims
feeling helpless and afraid. As the winter season approaches, many residents
leave their homes vacant for extended periods of time. This becomes an
opportune time for perpetrators to commit property crimes. In an effort
combat this issue; the LSPD will be implementing Operation "Safe Home" until
further notice.
Operation "Safe Home" is a cooperative effort amongst police personnel
and members of the community to deter criminal activity in the Village of
Lake Success. In addition to routine patrol, the LSPD will be doing the
following:
· Increased patrol around burglary prone locations; this will include,
but is not limited to:
Known vacant residences; homes in the immediate vicinity of construction
sites; homes which are easily accessed by a public highway; and homes less
visible from the street line.
· Low profile patrol: When feasible, a low profile/unmarked vehicle will
be assigned solely to burglary patrol. If allotted by man-power, two
officers will be assigned to this vehicle.
· Preliminary Investigations: Officers will be proactive in
investigating suspicious persons/vehicles in the area. Blotter events and
field interviews will be completed and tracked by the "Safe Home"
coordinator. Arrests will be made when appropriate.
To both maximize our efforts and insure public safety, it is recommended
that residents of Lake Success do the following:
· Notify Police Headquarters via telephone at 482-4600 if you are going
to leave your residence vacant.
· Notify the police if you see suspicious persons/vehicles in the area.
· Notify Police Headquarters if it is necessary to park a vehicle in the
street overnight.
· Make sure your alarm systems are updated and working properly.
· Have your house numbers clearly displayed and illuminated.
· Install sensor lights if possible.
· Update your emergency contacts on file at LSPD Headquarters.
Operation "Safe Home" will help continue to keep the Village of Lake
Success one of the safest communities on Long Island. Any questions or
concerns, please don't hesitate to contact "Safe Home" coordinator Sgt. Mark
Staniszewski at 482-4600. Thank you for your cooperation.
