The Village Justice is elected by the residents for a four-year term. Village Court meets in the Village Courthouse on Vanderbilt Drive on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month for arraignments, and the first Wednesday of the month for trials and arraignments. The majority of the cases heard in the Village Court involve traffic or parking violations, but the court also has jurisdiction over violations of Village ordinances. Criminal cases go to the County Court in Mineola. An acting Justice, who is appointed by the Mayor, conducts the court in the absence of the Village Justice. The Village has a prosecuting attorney who prosecutes all cases. |
